This unit is composed of chemists and chemical engineers focused on developing advanced analytical methods and technologies for detecting and controlling chemical and biological pollution in solid and liquid streams generated by industry and other human activities. The unit has expertise in studying emerging contaminants of concern, including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, personal care products, and heavy metals. Additionally, it addresses pollution caused by biological agents such as viruses, pathogenic bacteria, and antibiotic resistance genes. The objective is to understand the dispersion and impact of these contaminants on the environment and human health, as well as to mitigate their negative effects through innovative technological solutions.
Hydrogeochemical study of aquifers contaminated by toxic trace elements.
Impact of historical and emerging pollutants in polar areas and their relationship with global warming.
Study of contaminant transport in terrestrial mammals: persistence, bioaccumulation and potential for long-distance propagation.
Development and validation of new sampling techniques for the exchange of organic contaminants.
Development of analytical methods for the study of emerging contaminants.
Wastewater-based epidemiology.
Quantification and elimination of antibiotic resistance genes in waste streams
