This past Monday the #InnovaciónFrenteAlVirus initiative announced the winners of the different categories, among which is the idea FIVI (Fight Viruses), proposed by the Institute of Sustainable Processes. #InnovaciónFrenteAlVirus is an open initiative developed by the Department of Education of Castilla y León and the support platform for entrepreneurship “Startup Olé” that aims to create a platform that alleviates the effects of the current health alert for coronavirus.
Likewise, ISP members presented the FIVI project in the Sustainabilit/Water/Energy category R&D / Spin off group. This idea consists of analyzing the levels of coronavirus in wastewater to obtain data on the spread of the disease throughout the population. This approach would allow having data on how widespread COVID-19 is without the need for massive tests, so that future outbreaks could also be prevented by obtaining data even from asymptomatic cases. For this, it would be necessary, first of all, to carry out studies to fine-tune the sampling methodology as well as obtain data that allows the levels obtained to be extrapolated with the percentage of the infected population at a given time. This system would not only be applicable to coronaviruses, but also against other more well-known viruses such as the flu or could even be adapted to future epidemics.
FIVI also seeks to create a platform that allows the visualization and analysis of data to facilitate decision-making for healthcare authorities.
The project has also counted on the mentoring of different business areas to assess and improve its viability, in the same way that members of the ISP have participated as mentors of other projects. In addition, as an awarded project, the ISP will present its project in the next edition of “Startup Olé 2020” that will take place in September 2020.
