On March 28, Pedro Antonio García Encina, professor at the University of Valladolid, was elected Director of the Institute of Sustainable Processes by an absolute majority in the first round. The candidate was re-elected after completing his previous term as director (2018–2022).
His research career, which began in 1982, focuses on wastewater and waste treatment, with a special emphasis on the application of biological processes. He has participated in 30 R&D projects funded through public calls (4 with international funding and 9 as principal investigator), 70 agreements with companies or public administrations, has published 120 journal articles (100 in JCR journals), 17 book chapters, more than 125 papers at international conferences, and 48 papers at national conferences, in addition to 4 patents and 21 PhD theses he has supervised or co-supervised.
During his term, García Encina plans to promote various initiatives to position the Institute of Sustainable Processes as a scientific and innovation benchmark, both nationally and internationally, in the development of sustainable technologies and processes.
