To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, on February 11th the Institute of Sustainable Processes (ISP) held an open day with a visit from students of El Pilar School and IES Galileo. The aim of this initiative was to bring science closer to younger generations and spark their interest in scientific and technological knowledge from an early age.
The day began with a meeting with ISP researchers, who shared their personal experiences, career paths, and the challenges and motivations they have encountered throughout their journeys in the scientific field. Through these talks, the students were able to learn first-hand about different ways of building a career in science, as well as the importance of female talent in generating knowledge and developing solutions to current challenges.
Afterwards, the students toured our facilities and gained insight into the research lines carried out at ISP, focused on sustainability and the search for innovative solutions to global challenges. Through hands-on activities and laboratory demonstrations, they experienced how the scientific method is applied in everyday work, actively participating in experiences designed to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and interest in STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
As a final activity, the day concluded with a game in which the students were able to test, in a fun and interactive way, what they had learned during the visit. This short quiz helped reinforce key concepts and brought the event to a close in a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere.
The day proved to be very enriching both for the students and for the institute’s staff, reinforcing our commitment to science outreach, equal opportunities, and the promotion of scientific vocations.
